Adventure Camps

Middle School Adventure Camps offer activities beyond resident camp. Adventure camp programs are geared toward a specific population group (age and/or gender), or activity. Depending on the adventure camp, campers will participate in activities designed specifically for their group. Different adventure camps are offered every week of the summer and are limited to a smaller family group size than the resident camps. Each specific adventure camp activity is staffed by a trained resource person, in addition to the senior counselor(s) assigned to the group. Adventure camps offer opportunities for campers to complete physical challenges, take time for spiritual reflection, learn new skills and make new friends. Campers will also spend time participating in all-camp activities such as campfires and the talent show. Adventure campers may be housed in cabins, lodges, tents, or covered outdoor platforms. Cabinmate requests are not necessary for adventure camps.

Tekoa's program and resource staff continually look for ways to improve the adventure camp programs, including scouting new trails, rivers and rocks, allowing the programs to change and advance from year to year. Weather conditions also play a factor in deciding the route or location of an adventure camp activity.

Breakout Camp

Middle School Water Adventure

It is easy to see why Water Adventure is one of our most popular adventure camps! Campers spend one day at camp enjoying all the on-site water activities Tekoa has to offer.  They quickly take their water adventures off-site to spend their second day on the crystal blue water of Lake Jocassee.  This day of water-based initiative games, canoe instruction, and snorkeling prepares campers for their remaining three days of tubing, canoeing and waterfall-hopping on our local rivers. Instructors spend time teaching about water safety, proper paddling techniques, and having a blast in the water! Middle School Fishing

Fishing is much more than just a slow, relaxing, snooze under a tree. Campers use Tekoa’s three-acre lake to practice and learn about bait, tackle, rods, reels, and casting. Campers begin their week with an off-site, lakeside fishing and camping trip on Bingham Lake.  After completing the camping trip, experienced instructors guide the campers to local lakes, rivers and streams to put their skills to test. Middle School Survivor

Survivor is quickly becoming one of Tekoa’s most popular adventure camps!  Much like the TV show, survivor campers engage in group challenges and competitions in order to earn supplies and valuable equipment throughout the week. Campers live at a primitive campsite where they learn how to make fires, prepare food, navigate through nature and build shelters.  During the evening council meeting, campers vote on the “ultimate survivor!” For more specific information regarding this week at camp, and an additional What To Pack list, please click here.
