7 Things That Make Camp Tekoa Unique

Friday, 05 August 2022 17:08

Just think of all the beautiful times you had at summer camp. Is the nostalgia hitting yet? It sure is for us, which is why we get it when the American Camp Association says that 92% of campers feel better about themselves, and 70% of parents believe that their children grow in self-confidence because of summer camp.

When Camp Tekoa started this journey in 1949, we knew that we needed to set ourselves apart and build our mission around that. “Touching hearts, changing lives, and sharing the light of Christ.” has been our guiding light since the beginning, and we have set ourselves up to do that with excellence.

We provide a variety of summer resident and day camps for boys and girls, featuring incredible experiences and state-of-the-art facilities. We pull all of this together intending to deliver a camp experience like no other. Want to know what makes us unique?

What Does Camp Tekoa Offer?

1. New Experiences

It isn't every day that you get to spend a day deep in the mountains of North Carolina with no screens and full-blown adventure. At Camp Tekoa, we pride ourselves on exposure to new and exciting experiences that your child may not be able to experience elsewhere. Some of our incredible recreational facilities include:

  • Three Acre Lake
  • Canoes and Paddle Boats
  • Fishing, Swimming
  • High Ropes Courses
  • Ziplines
  • 40’ Climbing tower and Bouldering Wall
  • Tree Climb
  • Rope Swing
  • Challenge Course
  • Disk Golf Course
  • And so much more!

Giving your kids the adventure of a lifetime is our job, and offering that in a safe and engaging environment where faith is the main focus is a great way to develop your child into the leader that they can be.

2. Year Round Programs

Not only do we offer incredible summer camp programs, but we keep things rolling year round. Our after-school and break camp programming for Henderson County families is a phenomenal resource for our local community. We enjoy many of the same summer camp activities along with additional programming for homeschool groups.

3. Adventure Camps

We believe that getting outside is a perfect way for middle school and high school-age children to connect with their faith, as well as grow as people. We offer several adventure camps to accommodate different age groups, from rising 6th graders to our Expedition high school program. These camps allow campers to experience outdoor activities such as:

  • Backpacking
  • Canoeing
  • Cave Adventures
  • Rock Climbing
  • Stand Up Paddle Boarding
  • White Water Rafting
  • Mountain Biking
  • Scuba Diving
  • Primitive Camping

These experiences are life-changing, and kids leave with new skills and confidence that will surely carry over into their everyday lives.

4. Special Needs Camps

Something special that our camp offers are the Barnabas Summer Camp. Barnabas camps are designed specifically for adults with developmental disabilities and are an incredible opportunity.

Campers will enjoy many of the same activities and experiences as many of our other camps while being partnered with a special friend who remains by their side throughout the week, offering them encouragement and assistance.

5. Building Community

When your children come to camp, they are integrated into a new community. They learn to work together, live together in bunks, and build bonds that can last a lifetime. The camp community is one of the most important parts of camp because of the long-lasting relationships that come from summer camp.

Children from all over the country, with different socioeconomic backgrounds and cultures, all come together to share in camp traditions. These shared traditions can leave lasting impacts on your children as they step out into the real world. Building community in a camp setting allows children to celebrate the beautiful diversity in our world.

6. The Best Staff

Camp Tekoa prides itself on the incredible staff that we have pulled together over the years. Whether it be our year-round salaried staff or our summer camp counselors, we believe in enhancing the development of our staff in all areas of life.

7. Christian Principles

Everything that we do at Camp Tekoa is built around our mission of “Touching Hearts, Changing Lives, and Sharing The Light Of Christ.” Every child that arrives at our camp is valued and feels a sense of belonging. Regardless of whether we are hiking deep through the North Carolina mountains or sitting around the campfire, we strive to help each camper step into their identity in Christ.

Experience Camp Tekoa

While we can go on and on about how amazing our camp is, we believe that it is best experienced in person. Whether you decide to send your child to a day camp, adventure camp, or summer camp or bring the whole family along for family camp, we know that the experience at Camp Tekoa will make a positive impact.

Camp Tekoa is located in the mountains just outside of  Hendersonville, NC, and is the perfect place to send your child for a safe and incredible camp experience, and Christ Centered (or join them for family camp). To learn more or register your child for an upcoming session, contact us today!
