Summer Internships
Internships For Your College Classes
Some college students will have classes, professors, minors, or majors that require an internship for academic credit. Every summer Camp Tekoa is a host site for these types of internships. The Assistant Director and Executive Director meet with the intern regularly. They complete forms and other paperwork required by the college. All internships at Camp Tekoa are paid internships unnless the intern specifically requests for volunteer hours instead in order to meet specific requirements of their academic department.
Examples of some common Academic Internship functions that Camp Tekoa can do to support interns:
- Interview intern
- Issue formal contract
- Communicate with professor(s) or academic department head
- Orientation
- Fill out and sign a weekly hours log
- Complete mid season review
- Weekly check in meetings
- Collaborate and advise on a project
- Complete end of season review
Internships For Your Professional Development
Some college students are not need an internship that is academically required of them, but they are looking to grow, learn, improve themselves, gain professional skills, and build their resume. Sometimes professors, mentors, or other leaders in life encourage you ro get an internship over the summer to prepare you for the working world. A summer job at Camp Tekoa meets all those needs. All internships at Camp Tekoa are paid internships.

Year Long Internships
Camp Tekoa employs one to two year-long interns. This is a great opportunity for those who have just graduated college or are close but looking for a gap year experience. This one year experience helps provide you with clarity on your vocational calling during a transitional season of your life. If you are interested in this paid year-long internship at Camp Tekoa, you are encouraged to first work at least one summer at Camp Tekoa before applying to a year-long internship.
Program Interns
The Progam Internship at Camp Tekoa is a great experience to grow professionally, personally, and spiritually. Program Interns spend about 12 1/2 months living and working at Camp Tekoa. It is a season of internship mentorship and discipleship that prepares you for a life and career that is fulfillinf and meaningful. Some past interns have gone on to future roles in corporate settings, camp program directors, youth pastors, camp program specialists, grad school, and more. If you would like to pursue a program intern role at Camp Tekoa, you are encouraged to first work at least one summer at Camp Tekoa before applying to a year-long program internship. If you are interested for the future, you are encouraged to let the Assistant Director and Executive Director know.
What We Look For
The personal qualities and criteria we look for in our applicants:
- A Christian, high school graduate, college age student, or recent college graduate excited about Tekoa's mission of "Touching hearts, changing lives, sharing the light of Christ."
- Show evidence of enjoying interacting with children
- Show excitement for working in the outdoors
- Show signs of being a good listener
- Able to think quickly and react positively to pressure situations
- Good positive attitude and good character
- Show evidence of working well with others
- Ready to laugh, cry, and smile along side campers and staff
Dates
Summer Internships:
- May to August (about 3 months)
Year-Long Internships:
- August - August of the following year (about 12 1/2 months)
- January - August (less common, but sometimes arrangements can be made)
