Information on Our Other Special Needs Camps
Tekoa's special needs camps offer fun activities for campers with developmental disabilities. Tekoa offers different camp opportunities based on camper’s age. Campers must be ambulatory and able to feed, bathe, and clothe themselves.
Barnabas Summer Camp
(age 18+)
Barnabas camp is designed for adults with developmental disabilities. The name comes from the Biblical Barnabas, who was known for showing great kindness to Saul (apostle Paul). His Hebrew name translates to “son of encouragement," and just as our Barnabas campers always encourage us, we hope to extend such encouragement and kindness to them.
Barnabas campers need to be ambulatory and must be able to feed, bathe, and clothe themselves. Campers enjoy activities such as boating, hiking, zipline, arts & crafts, devotions and talent show performances and are partnered with a special friend who remains by their side throughout the week, offering them support and care.
Barnabas Summer Camp check-in is on Monday from 4:00-4:40 pm. If attending our Barnabas camp, please print and fill out our Special Needs Questionnaire.
Summer Barnabas Volunteers (Special Friends)
(age 18+)
This is a great opportunity to provide a helping hand during an awesome week! Volunteers are assigned a camper with developmental disabilities with whom they share in all the activities of camp. Just as their name suggests, Special Friends are week-long companions who provide care and encouragement while expressing Christian love. 18 yr. old minimum. Application, references and a background check are required. For more info visit our “You Can Help” link on our website or call 828-692-6516.
