Camp Tekoa’s Afterschool program offers skill-based classes/workshops throughout the school year in addition to our normal afterschool activities. Classes we have offered in the past include climbing, cooking, mountain biking, textile crafting, photography, paddling, cooking with fire and more!
How does it work?
Elementary school campers will attend afterschool like normal, but then will join their class from 4:00-5:00 each day of instruction. The cost for the session of classes is in addition to normal afterschool fees.
Each class will have up to 12 campers with one main instructor. Most classes will also have a support staff member. Campers will be with mixed ages and will participate and learn according to their own comfort, ability, and skill level. Registration is at the link below. Email Alicia at [email protected] with any questions!

Spring Session 2024
Mondays – Gardening and Dirt
It’s time to get dirty! We are growing a garden to provide fruits, vegetables, and herbs for our cooking classes! Campers will learning about the different plants we will grow and the soil they need. They will work together to design our garden with resources available, plant seeds, and transplant seedlings into our beds and containers! Some foods will be able to be snacked on at the end of the class, others will be ready for harvest throughout the summer and we will invite campers back to visit and help us with the harvest.
Tuesdays – Pirates of the Carabiners
This class is set up as a fun way for campers to try our water adventure and climbing activities without committing to a full class. Each week they will rotate between a water activity or ropes activity on site. These may include but are not limited to our zipline in the woods, canoeing, climbing tower, bouldering, giant leap, paddleboarding, water games, Jr Lifeguard rescue skills etc. The last week will be a relay game using all of the skills learned.
Wednesdays – Fabrics and Threads
Campers will learn stitches and crochet techniques to create special handmade projects. We will be working with felt, cross stitch materials, embroidery thread, as well as various yarn and ribbon. Campers will work and learn according to their personal skill level. Classes build on one another.
Thursdays – Cooking with Fire
Outdoor cooking over hot coals and fire, campers will combine kitchen and fire building to follow delicious camping recipes! From cutting and peeling vegetables to working with dough for pizzas and cobblers, campers will use their cooking skills to make and design amazing treats. They will also collect the wood and build the fire each week! Kitchen and fire safety policies will be taught and followed. Campers will be given responsibilities based on their personal skills and ability to safely perform tasks and follow directions.
Fridays – Wild Child
Outdoor skills class with a faith based component. This class is for the kids with mud on their faces and Tekoa in their hearts. Campers will venture out to “base camp” each week to break into their community groups and learn skills for the wild while exploring and learning to love and respect God’s creation beginning with the ecosystems we have here at camp. Outdoor skills taught may include shelter building, orienteering, edible and medicinal plants, water purification, fire building etc. Faith based nature devotions are led by staff and campers. Do you have a wild child? Be sure to send them with play clothes that are okay to get dirty!
