FAQ About Camp for Kids at Camp Tekoa

What Is the Mission of Camp Tekoa?

Our mission at Camp Tekoa is “Touching hearts, changing lives, sharing the light of Christ.”

What Is the Purpose of Camp Tekoa?

Christian values are the foundation of Camp Tekoa. Everything we do is built around our mission. Every child is valued and belongs here. We try to help each camper grow into who God is calling them to be, whether it is through the off-site adventure trips or our weekly talent show.

Camper groups are arranged as Family Groups and are led by Family Group Leaders (counselors) since we emphasize community. These family groups share with one another how they have grown and talk about all the memories they have shared together at the end of each week.

Where Is Camp Tekoa Located?

Camp Tekoa is nestled next to Dupont State Forest and Pisgah National Forest in the stunning North Carolina mountains in Hendersonville, NC!

What Is the Weather and Temperature in Hendersonville, NC, in the Summer?

Summers average a high of 83 and a low of 65. Layers are essential in the summer. You may need sweatshirts or light jackets in the morning and evening but short sleeves in the afternoon.

Who Will Be Staying with My Child?

The campers will be supervised by college-aged cabin leaders who love God, love working with youth and children, and love the outdoors. The cabin leaders will mentor them, teach them leadership skills, and accompany campers to all camp activities.

Prior to the summer camp season, staff members must complete a 2-week staff training course after being hired. Staff members receive the education and training necessary to lead camp activities and programs. More specifically, staff members are trained in age and faith development, group activities, CPR and First Aid, and a ton of other aspects of camper engagement.

What Are Your Policies for Medication and Medical Issues?

ALL MEDICATIONS MUST BE REPORTED TO THE NURSE DURING CHECK-IN. The camper's name, the dose quantity, the frequency, and any other instructions should be properly recorded on any prescription medication that is present in its original container and is sealed in a Ziploc bag. ONLY bring what is required for your camper's stay.

Tekoa's health center is stocked with a variety of generic over-the-counter pharmaceuticals, such as pain relievers, antacids, etc. so it is NOT necessary to send this medication with your camper.  OTC medications will not be returned if sent.

It is forbidden for campers to carry their medications. After seven days, any pharmaceuticals still present at camp will be discarded.

What happens in an emergency? Our licensed nurse is on call around-the-clock. You will be alerted by phone if your camper is sick for more than six hours. Minor illnesses and injuries are noted in the nurse log book. You will be notified right away if your camper needs to be taken to the hospital or doctor's office due to any serious injuries or illnesses.

Health insurance is not provided to campers by Camp Tekoa. A policy supplied from home must provide coverage for campers. Your insurance information will be given to the hospital and/or doctor if your camper needs medical attention. At check-out, any unpaid medical expenses incurred at camp will be forwarded home or collected.
